What is the Weekly Safety Tip?

What Companies Do You Represent

As an independent insurance agency, DGK places insurance with Allstate, Brethren, EMC, Foremost, Harleysville, PA National, Ohio Casualty, Selective, Metlife, Progressive, & Westfield and others.

Who handles claims?

Your customer service agent. If you are not sure whom to speak with, ask our receptionist when you call.

Do I get a 30 day grace period beyond the renewal date for my insurance payment?

Only on your life insurance.

Will my rates go up if I put in a homeowners claim?

Possibly with some companies you may lose your accident free discount, it may be difficult to change companies in the future & some companies started to penalize where they didn’t before.

What does Coinsurance mean?

The insured agrees to accept a penalty if a covered loss occurs & the property is not insured to a stipulated percentage of its value.

If I rent a car do I have to get their insurance?

On business policies there is no coverage for rental unless hired auto coverage is purchased. On personal policies - if you have comprehensive & collision the rental car will be covered. However your policy does not cover mechanical breakdown (the rental car insurance does).

Where are you located?

DGK’s home office is located in Factoryville, Pa. at the junction of Rt. 6 & 11 and 107.

What kinds of insurance do you sell?

Personal lines, Commercial lines, and Financial Services & Investments.

Is coverage for rental vehicles automatic?

No - this must be purchased & the rental is only for accidents.

My car is 10 yrs. old. Should I carry comprehensive and collision?

This is entirely up to the person, if they can afford it and the value of the vehicle. Some companies will not apply comprehensive & collision to older vehicles.

How soon do I need to report a workers comp. claim?

48 hrs. - this is by statute.

Can Drivers Training really save money?

10% credit is given on the vehicle the child is rated on. If the child leaves the policy before they are 24 - the drivers training gives them a better rate than without it. Sometimes it costs more for the Driver Training class than the credit you are given.

Who do I talk to?

Each client has an agent and a customer service team assigned to them.

Why do I need uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage?

If the person causing the accident is underinsured or not insured - this is where the disability coverage is provided for pain & suffering.

If someone borrows my car & has an accident, is there coverage?

Yes, for liability, comprehensive & collision if you purchased these coverages on your car. Medical payments must be submitted to the drivers own policy. The car cannot be used on a regular basis.

If I sign a gas lease, how will coverage for liability issues be addressed under either homeowner’s or farm owner’s insurance policy?

Several counties in NEPA have recently been targeted by natural gas producers to explore the region for gas by drilling gas wells under leases negotiated with the land owners.

First and most importantly you need to have an attorney review the contract you will be asked to sign.

Our comments below are based on standardized ISO Home Owner policy language. You must check with your own agent to determine how the language in your policy will address these issues.

(1) Since property owners are being paid for the use of their land, this may constitute a “business” exposure. Bodily injury or property damage arising out of or in connection with a business conducted from an insured location would trigger the business pursuit exclusion for a loss arising from the gas exploration activities.
(2) There is an exclusion for theft arising from premises rented to others that might be broadly interpreted to apply.
(3) There is a Care, Custody & Control “(CCC)” exclusion that might apply if property owned by the gas producers is damaged.

Farm Owner insurance policies are proprietary to each Insurance Company. They do not necessarily use standardized policy language. Based on this you must contact your agent to review how your policy will address the above concerns.

When does a deductible apply?

On personal policies - for comprehensive & collision coverages when specified. No deductible on Bodily injury.
